Y-ME relies heavily on volunteers who are committed to our mission.  While our headquarters office is located in Chicago, there are many ways to get involved no matter where you live – including becoming a Y-ME Connector or a certified Y-ME Peer Counselor.

Office Volunteers
If you live in or near the city of Chicago, you can volunteer at Y-ME headquarters by assisting with a variety of administrative and data-entry tasks.  Office volunteers help keep our administrative costs down and help ensure that our resources can be dedicated to helping those affected by cancer.

If you’re interested in becoming a local office volunteer, please fill out an application or email Debbie Hayes at dhayes@y-me.org for additional information.

Event Volunteers
If you are in the Chicago area and are interested in working at our events, such as the Y-ME Race At Your Pace and other special events, please fill out an application or email Debbie Hayes at dhayes@y-me.org.

If you are interested in volunteering for the Y-ME Race At Your Pace this Mother's Day, May 13, we have many ways for you to help, both before the event and on Race Day.  Find more details about how you can help right here.

Become a Peer Counselor
Our mission is providing breast cancer support today, for those who can’t wait for the cure tomorrow.

Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization is seeking volunteers who are breast cancer survivors to fill peer counselor positions on the Y-ME Hotline.  Peer counselors provide peer support; acting as a listener, a coach, and a resource for useful and accurate information.  Peer counselors are not medical professionals and do not give medical advice or endorse products or procedures.

All peer counselors are required to have been diagnosed and treated for breast cancer.  Y-ME continually recruits for volunteers who best fit the needs of our callers, to maintain a network of counselors who have had a wide variety of treatments, diagnoses, and experiences on their breast cancer journey.  There are two types of peer counselor positions: on-call peer counselors and match peer counselors.

If you would like to apply to become a peer counselor, please fill out an application indicating your area of interest, and let your journey begin!

Volunteer as a Y-ME Connector
Y-ME Connect is a program centered on building relationships with local hospitals, cancer centers, medical facilities, and doctor’s offices. Volunteers serve as connectors  to spread the word about Y-ME’s programs and services.  The goal of Y-ME Connect is to bring information about our 24/7 Hotline,  Match program, Wig & Prosthesis Bank, and support groups to those who need it most – breast cancer patients, survivors, and their friends and family.

If you are interested in volunteering as a Y-ME Connector please fill out an application, or email Debbie Hayes at dhayes@y-me.org for more information.
