Surgery

Surgery is an invasive, local treatment used to remove tumors. Surgeons frequently remove the tissue adjacent to the cancer; this is called getting “clear margins.” Information gained about the tumor during surgery is useful in predicting the likelihood of tumor recurrence and the need for other kinds of treatment including chemotherapy, radiation and hormone therapy.
