The Tulsa Walk to Empower is nearly here!

If you haven’t signed up for the Walk, do so today! Mother’s Day, May 11, is just around the corner. Remember your Mom and those who have been like a mother to you; and let’s also honor those survivors, family and friends who have been impacted by breast cancer. We hope to see you there at River West Festival Park, May 11! Sign up today to register!

Join Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization on Mother’s Day!

At 8:00 a.m. on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, 2008, more than 1,200 walkers and volunteers will gather in River West Festival Park for Y-ME Northeastern Oklahoma Affiliate’s 3rd Annual Walk to Empower, a 3-mile non-competitive walk.

The event promises to inspire and empower all who attend, providing the perfect way to honor the survivors in your life, commemorate your own diagnosis and remember those who are no longer with us. You'll also have the chance to raise funds in support of Y-ME's free-of-charge programs and services that are offered to all those touched by breast cancer.

Become a Hotline Peer Counselor!

Y-ME has an opportunity for breast cancer survivors to participate in some outstanding training at the national level to help us grow our local affiliate and engage you in an important service of Y-ME.

Hotline peer counselors Peer Support Certification Training
This two-day class is designed to provide information and promote understanding of medical facts, terminology and breast cancer treatment options, identify and develop interpersonal skills for peer counselors to use when talking to Y-ME Hotline callers. Attendees: Breast cancer survivors who have met Y-ME’s established screening requirements.

Class size: Minimum of 12, maximum of 15 participants.

All training sessions are currently fully funded by the national office. Our Northeastern Oklahoma Affiliate needs to have a good representation by the end of 2008. Seminars and Outreach Events

Did you know that Y-ME will come to your workplace, club or religious institution and hold a breast health seminar? As an educational outreach Y-ME may be able to offer some information on breast cancer that can make a difference in your lives. Call 494 8808 or email bcordingley@y-me.org for more information.

Camp Hope

The 2008 Camp Hope Sessions are as follows - The first session is scheduled for March 29 at Hope Unitarian Church Cabin in Tulsa. The second session is on April 12 at the Girl Scout Troop House in Sand Springs. The third session is on June 21 at Hope Unitarian Church Cabin in Tulsa. We will let you know when the fourth and fifth sessions are scheduled. To preserve the camp’s intimacy, a limited number of campers can participate in any one session. Cancer Survivorship Series

The Cancer Survivorship Series, co-sponsored by the National Cancer Institute, is a free, three-part workshop for cancer survivors, their families, friends and healthcare professionals practical information to help them cope with concerns and issues that arise after treatment ends.

Part I, April 22: “The Importance of Communicating with Your Doctor about Follow-Up Care”
Part II, May 13: “Rediscovering Intimacy in your Relationships Following Treatment”
Part III, June 24 - “Survivors Too: Family, Friends and Loved Ones”

All of the workshops take place from 12:30 to 1:30 CT.
