Caring for Your Prosthesis
The tips Y-ME offers below will help you feel more comfortable getting used to your new prosthesis.
-
The best way to wash your breast form is with lukewarm water and mild soap. After washing briefly, rinse the form thoroughly in lukewarm water to remove all soap residue and cosmetics that may irritate your skin. Dry the prosthesis with a soft cloth.
-
Silicone prostheses will not be damaged by chlorinated water or seawater. Simply rinse the breast form and pat it dry with towel after swimming.
-
Prostheses are insensitive to heat and cold, tolerating the same temperatures that your body can.
-
When not wearing your breast form, store it in its original packaging so it will keep its shape.
-
Breast forms can be damaged by sharp objects such as jewelry, needles and brooches, but they will not lose volume. Simply cover the damaged portion with adhesive tape and it will not tear further.
-
Wash mastectomy bras with soap and water as you would any other lingerie item.
