Caring for Your Wig
By following these steps, you can make sure your wig stays clean and will keep its shape.
Washing
1. There is no set rule as to how often wigs must be washed. Generally, they should be cleaned every four to six weeks if worn every day. Wash yours more frequently if you perspire a lot, and less frequently if you use a wig liner.
2. Before washing your wig, gently brush out all tangles and hairspray build up.
3. In a sink, mix wig shampoo with cold water—not hot—and immerse wig.
**Always use a shampoo specifically formulated to clean wigs. If one is not available, use baby shampoo.
4. Gently agitate the water and allow wig to soak for three to five minutes.
5. Rinse completely in clean, cool water. Do not wring out the wig. Place wig in a towel to absorb excess moisture.
Drying
6. Wig conditioner may be used at this time, leaving your wig softer and easier to style—follow instructions on the product’s label.
7. Never brush a wig while it is wet. Instead, style with fingers and let dry completely on a wig stand. Some people use a tall bottle for this.
Styling
8. Do not use a hairdryer, curling iron or any drying aid. Keep the wig away from open hot ovens, boiling water, clothes dryers, barbeque grills and other heat sources to avoid a making your wig frizzy.
9. Gently style your wig with a wide comb or your fingers after it has completely dried.
Please note: Your scalp should be kept clean so that your wig will not get dirty on the inside.
Storing Your Wig
• Short periods: store wig on a wig stand
• Longer periods: fold carefully and put wig in a box
