Y-ME Training Workshops

As a national organization, we’re striving to bring more breast cancer programs and resources into your community. By becoming a Y-ME volunteer, you can help us achieve our mission to ensure no one faces breast cancer alone.

Y-ME offers several opportunities for you to get involved, from becoming a support group facilitator to a leading breast health awareness workshops. Y-ME provides all the necessary training and education to get you started. See below for a list of available volunteer opportunities and training courses.

Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization offers the following training classes for volunteer opportunities:

Breast Cancer Basics, Train-the-Trainer

This class gives an overview of breast cancer and is mandatory for all volunteers representing Y-ME. The four-hour training session provides attendees with an understanding of medical facts, terminology and treatment options and prepares them to confidently promote this information to the general public.
Audience: Breast cancer advocates. Class size: minimum of 6, maximum of 8 participants.

Breast Health Awareness, Train-the-Trainer

This four-hour class prepares individuals to teach breast health awareness and earlier detection skills to the general public. At the end of this class, trainers will be able to empower women to incorporate breast health skills into their lives and collaborate with their health care professionals.
Audience: Breast cancer advocates. Class size: minimum of 6, maximum of 8 participants.

Facilitation for Open Door Leaders

This four-hour class provides basic breast cancer knowledge and helps participants develop skills necessary to facilitate an open door educational session. Open door sessions feature medical professionals who discuss breast cancer topics with a group. The sessions are open to the public.
Audience: Breast cancer survivors and health care professionals. Class size: minimum of 6, maximum of 8 participants.

Facilitation for Support Group Leaders

This one-day class provides basic breast cancer knowledge and helps participants develop skills necessary to facilitate peer-to-peer support groups. Y-ME support groups are facilitated by a breast cancer survivor or co-facilitated by a breast cancer survivor and a health care professional.
Audience: Breast cancer survivors and health care professionals. Class size: minimum of 6, maximum of 8 participants.

Peer Support Certification Training

This two-day workshop is for people who would like to become peer counselors for the Y-ME 24/7 Hotline. The training promotes an understanding of medical facts, terminology and breast cancer treatment options and helps participants develop the interpersonal skills that peer counselors use when talking to Y-ME Hotline callers.
Audience
: Breast cancer survivors who have met Y-ME’s established Hotline volunteer screening requirements. Class size: minimum of 12, maximum of 15 participants.

Teen Program Presenter

This one-day class prepares individuals to teach the Y-ME Teen Program to teenage girls in their community. At the end of this class, trainers will have the ability to teach teenage girls about the basics of breast cancer and breast health as well as facilitate a group discussion on the subject, including a practice session with a breast model.
Audience: Breast cancer survivors. Class size: minimum of 6, maximum of 8 participants.
